Thato is a current PhD candidate in Microbiology, holding an MSc in Biochemistry, with a strong academic foundation in biochemistry, microbiology, and molecular biology. His research focuses on the roles of microbial communities in marine environments, with particular emphasis on how trace elements influence microbial metabolic pathways such as methane oxidation in the Southern Ocean.
Driven by a passion for advancing marine microbial research in underrepresented regions, Thato is committed to contributing knowledge that supports global climate models and informs environmental management strategies. Outside the laboratory, he values continuous learning and the mentorship of emerging scientists, aiming to make a meaningful impact within both the scientific community and broader society.
