Benjamin Abraham

PhD Candidate

Benjamin is investigating marine microbial communities and organic matter profiles of pristine environments in the Southern Ocean. This includes the impact of anthropogenic pollutants on biogeochemical cycling within these pristine environments. This investigation uses multi-omics analysis by combing both microbial sequencing and mass spectrometry (MS) data. Past research includes microbial communities within aquaponic systems and investigating phytochemical distinctions between plants grown in aquaponic setups versus traditional soil environments using MS and feature-based molecular networking (FBMN).

More generally, he is interested in complex biological systems, the communication of microbial organisms via metabolite exchange, and the impact that anthropogenic activity has on these systems.
