MSc Candidate

Laa’iqah is a microbiologist with a background in biotechnology, molecular biology, genetics, and microbiology. She is interested in understanding how microbial communities influence human health, particularly in the context of women’s health. Following her BSc Honours research on the zoonotic potential of Cryptosporidium in children living in informal settlements, she is now investigating how dietary patterns shape the estrobolome and influence acne severity.

Her research integrates molecular biology, microbiome science, and bioinformatics to better understand the complex interactions between diet, the microbiome, and human health. Her broader interests include the female microbiome, host–microbe interactions, and translating microbiome research into improved public health outcomes.
