Dr Nonsikelelo Precios Hlongwa (née Mthethwa)

Nonsikelelo Precios Mthethwa Hlongwa is a South African postdoctoral researcher within the African Microbiome Project at Stellenbosch University. Her work spans human gut and air microbiome research, applied metagenomics, molecular assays, and computational biology to understand microbial ecology and antimicrobial resistance in both environmental and health-related contexts.
She is internationally recognised as a Fulbright alumna, L’Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science Awardee, National Research Foundation (NRF) Next Generation Researchers Award recipient, and she was recently selected for an EMBL-UNESCO Residency in Infection Biology Research. She continues to advance microbiome science through innovative, interdisciplinary, and socially impactful research.
